Why the breed exists
Where British sportsmen kept specialists — one dog to point, another to retrieve — German hunters wanted one dog for everything: point upland birds, retrieve from water, track wounded deer, and guard the game bag at day's end. The GSP is that ambition realized: webbed feet, a water-resistant coat, a nose rated among the best in dogdom, and an engine that does not quit. The breed's intensity at home is the same intensity that made it Germany's do-everything gun dog. It was never meant to do nothing.

Choosing a German Shorthaired Pointer on purpose
Every breed has its own list of required health screenings, kept by its parent club and published through OFA. A preservation breeder working in this breed tests to that list and shows you the results — including the ones that didn't go their way.
